Things to do in Portsmouth & Southsea
Commercial Road, City Centre: This is Portsmouth’s main shopping centre and is ideal for some retail therapy, there are some great high street shops and a modern indoor shopping centre with a wide range of over 50 stores.
Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth Harbour: Famous for its Spinnaker Tower, the marina and a contemporary art gallery, it is also great for shopping with over 90 outlet brands and many places you can stop for a coffee or spot of lunch.
Palmerston Road, Southsea Centre: This smaller high street offers two large department stores and a handful of other high street shops and independent boutiques.
Albert Road, Southsea: Offers a collection of independent and quirky shops, retro clothes, antiques and crafts.
Convenient Stores: There is a huge range of supermarkets and convenience stores in the city. No matter where you are in Southsea and Portsmouth there will be a convenience store or supermarket within walking distance.
Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth Harbour: Offers a great selection of restaurants from Spanish, fish, Italian, steak and French. With great outdoor dining for those summer months as well as a wide range of beverages and cocktails.
Albert Road and Osborne Road: These two busy Southsea streets have a variety of independent restaurants with Indian and Chinese being the most popular but you can also find Greek, Turkish, Sushi and Tapas hidden amongst the curry houses.
Old Portsmouth: Home to some traditional English pub grub with hearty food and great views over the Solent.

Nightlife, Live Music, Comedy and Cinema
The Wedgewood Rooms, Southsea: Holds regular comedy nights and here you can also catch live bands and club nights.
Gunwharf Quays: As well as great shops and restaurants, Gunwharf Quays also has some great nightlife with several bars, a comedy club and large nightclub.
Portsmouth Guildhall, Portsmouth: The Guildhall itself regularly hosts concerts and live shows and there are several pubs and bars within walking distance if you fancy a drink or something to eat first.
Cinema, Gunwharf Quays: Catch all the latest films at the multiplex cinema at Gunwharf Quays.
Southsea Common: The bandstand offers great live music, bands and events in the summer months. It’s great on sunny days to take a picnic and relax on the common with friends whilst listening to live music.
Albert Road, Southsea: Offers a great selection of traditional English pubs.
Culture and Heritage
Historic Dockyard: A great day out and is home to the Mary Rose, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Royal Naval Museum. Discover how our sailors lived their lives serving the nation in these great ships.
Aspex Art Gallery, Gunwharf Quay: This is Portsmouth leading contemporary art gallery where you’ll find the works of local artists presented alongside internationally recognised names.
Museums: There are over 12 museums in Portsmouth including the Royal Naval Museum, D Day Museum and the Natural History Museum.
Theatres: Portsmouth house two great Victorian theatres, The Kings Theatre and New Theatre Royal. Both of which offer a variety of shows including contemporary plays, musicals, comedies and pantomimes.
Spinnaker Tower, Gunwharf Quays: At 170 metres high the Spinnaker Tower is taller than the London Eye, Blackpool Tower and Big Ben. The tower offers amazing 360° panoramic views over the city, south coast and Isle of Wight.
